Melissa Data is looking for one to two temporary, part-time Data Entry & Research Specialist Independent Contractors to perform web research and data entry for its Cicero product. Following upcoming elections in the United States, Canada and Australia, the Data Entry & Research Specialist will consult a variety of web-based sources in order to verify election winners and make updates to contact, social media and other information for thousands of elected officials in the Cicero database.
This part-time independent contractor position will be 20-35 hours per week from mid-October 2024 through the end of May 2025. Candidates are expected to set a consistent weekly schedule that overlaps with several daily team meetings (at 10:30am Eastern Time) per week and that primarily falls between 9am-8pm ET on weekdays. This position reports to the Cicero Product Manager.

About Cicero
Cicero is a nonpartisan global database of elected officials and legislative districts at multiple levels of government that is available via API, licensing and batch processing. Cicero supports a range of customers (from small single-issue organizations to large political technology platforms) in advancing their advocacy and government affairs objectives. The Cicero database provides accurate information about elected officials and is geospatially enabled to match constituent addresses to legislative districts and their representatives.
Responsibilities
- Learn and follow established processes for updating the Cicero database
- Find and reference a combination of election commission, official legislature and other websites to verify election results as well as contact, social media and other information for elected officials in the United States and several other countries
- Accurately enter data about elected officials into the Cicero database using a custom web-based data entry tool
- Perform various quality assurance/control checks of Cicero data as directed
Desired Skills/Abilities:
- Capacity to pay meticulous attention to detail for several hours at a time
- Strong ability to work independently and be resourceful while also being able to collaborate and ask for more information or help if something is not clear
- Prior experience with data entry and/or data cleaning
- Ability to identify and correct inconsistencies in datasets
- Proficiency with basic business applications including email, spreadsheets (e.g. Google Sheets or MS Excel), web browsers
- Experience working with and/or interest in political data
Other Requirements:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods while working on a computer
- Candidate must have a laptop or desktop computer and a reliable internet connection
